Earth Month Support From Estée Lauder

The company behind top beauty brand Estée Lauder has announced a raft of new non-profit partners to coincide with Earth Month.

Taking place throughout April, Earth Month aims to encourage and celebrate environmental progress internationally. Worldwide events culminate in a dedicated Earth Day, taking place this year on April 22.

The theme of the 2022 event is Invest In Our Planet.

A statement issued by Estée Lauder Companies said the business is proactively reducing its emissions and developing responsible packaging. It is also minimising waste across its operations and helping to address the issue of virgin plastic use.

But it is committed to doing even more to help the environment and, through its charitable foundation, is supporting a range of important initiatives.

The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation has partnered with non-profit organisations that aim to advance restorative conservation through a wide range of projects around the globe.

They include initiatives that:

  • Tackle plastic waste

  • Support responsible sourcing

  • Enhance livelihoods, especially those of women

"Making meaningful progress towards a more just, inclusive, equitable and sustainable future— one that serves the many, not the few— requires holistic, collaborative, and scalable solutions that address these global challenges simultaneously," the statement said.

It continued: "This Earth Month, Estée Lauder Companies is proud to highlight three of ELCCF’s partner organisations who are leading the essential work to help advance equitable climate solutions for both people and planet."

Projects Supported By Estée Lauder

The company has highlighted its support for the following:

The Foundation is supporting Conservation International's work with indigenous women and their communities to conserve forests and biodiversity in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. In these areas, ancient forests that store and absorb high amounts of carbon from our atmosphere are being cut down, while women and their communities are often left without environmental and economic opportunity. The Foundation has provided a grant that will see the charity's Amazon Indigenous Women’s Fellowship Programme expand in these key ecosystems.

The Foundation has provided financial support for work that helps improve the livelihoods of waste collectors in Hubli, South India, and reduce the amount of plastic waste in the sea. The grant will also ensure Plastics for Change can set up an independent plastic collection site to further fair-trade principles and enable greater transparency, accountability and social change for women and marginalised communities involved in plastic collection.

The sustainable landscapes project focuses on community-based restoration, fire-free agricultural livelihood development and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification of smallholder farmers in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. It will be able to expand its work - thanks to the Foundation's support.

Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) ended its statement with these words: "ELC and its Charitable Foundation have long understood the importance of supporting local solutions to help address the intersecting challenges affecting global communities, but there’s more work ahead of us. And it won’t be easy.

"Through a continued investment and collaboration with partners around the world, we are furthering our efforts to take decisive action toward a low-carbon future and further a more just, equitable transition, not only within our walls but outside them too. By working together, we can unite our strengths and advance long-lasting solutions, bringing us one step closer to a sustainable, beautiful future."

Earth Day - Invest In Our Planet

Estée Lauder is not the only beauty brand to be doing its bit for the environment. Many others are following suit or have long associations with conservation projects. Among those to be actively supporting Earth Day are Physicians Formula and the Clean Beauty Collective.
